The Kmart Christmas Wishing Tree concept has been operating since 1987, proposed by a staff member in Adelaide who collected gifts for the less fortunate in the community. On Friday, the Goulburn Wishing Tree was launched with students from The Crescent School placing the first gifts under the tree.

The youngsters and staff also got to share in a piece of the cake to celebrate the launch of the tree.
Members of the public are invited to bring their gifts for the less fortunate and place them under ther tree from now until just before Christmas to bring a smile to the faces of families who would otherwise have very little at Christmas.
Goulburn store manager Regina Blume said, “The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal is Australia’s largest and longest running Christmas gift Appeal.
“Thanks to the incredible generosity of the Australian community, the Appeal has raised more than 8 million gifts that have been distributed to those in need, since 1987.
“In 2017, the Appeal, Australia wide, successfully collected more than 300,000 gifts.”
Salvation Army Goulburn representative Captain Phillip McCall that The Army was grateful to the local people for their support over the years.
“ Every year the there seems to be an in increase in the number of people and families doing it tough, and we appreciate the generosity of the public whose gifts go to local people.”
