Christmas is not only a time of receiving, but a time of giving as well.
The Goulburn Soldiers Club, along with local community service organisations including Anglicare, Mission Australia and Family Referral Services, Marymead, are giving gifts to local families in need.
“It is an initiative into its second year with the Goulburn Soldiers Club,” Mission Australia’s Area Manager South Eastern NSW and ACT Daniel Strickland said.
“This is a demonstration of local services working together to assist our local families without being in competition with each other.”
Anglicare focuses on helping children, young people and families who are homeless or in crisis.
Mission Australia help people find safe and affordable housing, support disadvantaged children and families, empower troubled young people and assist people with mental illness and disability.
Family Referral Services brings together families, support services and community resources so that children and young people are safe and well.
What do they have in common?
Children and families.
While a lot of focus is on children during Christmas, Mr Strickland wants people to think about the parents too.
“We commend the Goulburn Soldiers club on this initiative and encourage the community to not only think of the children this Christmas, but the parents that often go without so their children can have a great Christmas,” Mr Strickland said.
Toni Reay from Anglicare, Belinda Fosdike from Family Referral Services, Marymead, and Goulburn Soldiers Club promotions officer Eden Darnley were also at the Soldiers Club to promote the cause on Monday, November 19.
All gifts will be received until Monday, December 17.
