The Hume Police District have launched Operation Chrome, targeting risky driving behaviours in the Southern Highlands, Goulburn, Crookwell, Yass and Young areas.
Assistant commissioner Peter Barrie said the operation is an effort to reduce road trauma and save lives on rural roads in the region.
“Our primary aim is to stop fatal crashes before they happen. Sadly, two-thirds of the lives lost on NSW roads are in regional areas and the majority of lives lost on our roads is because of a poor decision by a driver or a rider,” he said.
There have been 321 deaths on roads throughout NSW this year.
Superintendent Chris Schilt said drivers need to follow the road rules in order to keep themselves and others safe on the road.
“Police will be out in force this weekend, to reduce road trauma and make the roads safer for everyone,” he said.
Operation Chrome kicks off on Friday, November 23 and runs to Sunday, November 25.
