The $18,900 will allow the city’s recycler and employer of people with disabilities to start the upgrading of its commercial laundry facilities.
Veolia Mulwaree Trustee Bob Kirk recently presented the Chair of the Endeavour Board, Geoff Kettle, with a cheque that will cover two thirds of the cost to replace two of Endeavour’s four commercial laundry dryers. The commercial laundry is a major business for Endeavour and employs about 30 supported employees.
“Over many years, our commercial laundry manager Roy Mason has led his team worked unstintingly by providing regular maintenance that has allowed the dryers to be used beyond their replacement date,” Mr Kettle said.
“But as it is no longer possible to get parts for these dryers, we have urgently sought funding in the past few months to replace the oldest dryers.”
The project aims to replace ageing equipment with two new dryers that will be easier to maintain and less costly to repair. As other funds become available, the remaining two dryers as well as the laundry’s boiler will be replaced.
In the past six months, Endeavour Industries Goulburn has also received significant funding from the NSW Government to replace the complete roof at its Oxley Street premises where the commercial laundry is located. Locally, the Goulburn business community got behind the successful Garden Ramble fund raiser. More recently, Endeavour renewed its five-year recycling contract with Goulburn Mulwaree Council.
“The string of positive financial news in such a short time might give the impression that we have sufficient funds. Far from it,” Mr Kettle said.
“The reality is that we have a committed, diligent management team using outdated equipment. If we are to properly maintain and later expand the commercial laundry operations, for example, we need to provide them with the appropriated tools and up to do facilities to do so.”
