The statistics come from the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR), released earlier this month.
They contain statewide crime figures for the 12 months to September 2018.
Specifically for Goulburn Mulwaree:
- stealing from retail stores: up by 43 reported incidents for the 12 months to September 2018
- fraud: also up by 18 reported incidents
- non-domestic violence related assault: up by 13 reports
- stealing from cars: significantly down by 38 incidents, compared with 2017.
Hume Police Superintendent Chris Schilt has told the Goulburn Post previously there was a noticeable local crime trend in relation to an increase in retail theft and fraud.
“For Goulburn Mulwaree, one of the trends we notice is an increase in stealing from retail stores over the last five years,” he said.
“Fraud is also up over a five-year period. This covers a wide variety of offences such as computer and phone fraud.”
Statewide, stealing from retail stores was up 3.9 per cent. Over half of this was attributable to an increase in the theft of liquor. Break-and-enter and steal from person offences were trending down statewide.
