A spokesperson said major construction work started in August and was on track for completion by mid-2019. Earthwork is being finalised along the Bungonia Road approaches to the new structure.
“A temporary work platform has been built across the Mulwaree River and piling work for the new bridge supports is now complete,” the spokesperson said.
“The next step will be construction of the new concrete bridge piers, retaining walls and abutments.
“Earthwork will continue on the new road approaches and the realignment of the Forbes Street intersection, including installing new stormwater pipes and road surface.
“Offsite manufacturing of the new bridge girders is in progress, with delivery expected in early 2019.”
Lane closures and traffic control are in place on Bungonia Road and Forbes Street, and a 40km/h speed limit is in place through the work site at all times.
Work is ongoing between 7am and 5pm Monday to Friday, and some Saturdays between 8am and 1pm.
Work will stop for the summer holidays on Friday, December 21 and will restart on Monday, January 7, 2019.
The RMS said regular inspections and security monitoring site would be carried out during the holidays to ensure safety for road users and the community.
