The first people of the area were the Aboriginal people of the Wiradjuri Nation and it wasn’t until 1820 when Surveyor Meehan camped at Grabben Gullen, that Europeans began to explore the area.
Squatters were in the area from the 1820s and the name Crookwell first appeared on a map in 1828 however the town wasn’t surveyed until 1860.
“Enjoy walking the tree lined streets of Crookwell as the route takes the visitor along the historic buildings, churches and picturesque parks.”
At that time, Surveyor Armstrong suggested: “It would be appropriate to call it Crookwell”, which was made official in 1885.
The walk takes approximately one and a half hours and starts in Roberts Street alongside the Visitor Information Centre. Enjoy walking the tree lined streets of Crookwell as the route takes the visitor along the historic buildings, churches and picturesque parks.
