By the look of the trim and fit group of cyclists assembled on the start line there had been some serious training over the festive season.
The Atkinson and Stalker Dental Graded Scratch Race was held on Range Road with the 20km course extending over the rolling hills from Chinamans Lane out to the turnaround point at Lambs Lane.
The rain and thunderstorms eased to allow racing to get underway in almost perfect conditions.
A and B Grades were combined and for most of the race you could have thrown a blanket over the field.
In a four up sprint to the finish line B Grader, Mark Gibson managed to take line honours narrowly over A Grader, Callum Emmerton and fellow B Graders, Andrew Stewart and Michael Beard.
The combined C and D Grades was also tightly contested with returning rider Robert Dorsett taking out the win from Mark Stutchbury and Nadine Moroney.
There were also solid rides by new comers Brendon Bassett and Brodie Willis. Both were impressive in their first up races.
Racing next Wednesday is on at Middle Arm Road for the Hall Electrics Secret Handicap.
Sign on will be opposite the cemetery by 6.00pm, with racing set to commence from 6.30pm. Any and all new riders who are interested are welcome to come along and try their hands.
