A single vehicle accident at Lade Vale on the Hume Highway between Gunning and Yass has left three passengers injured and one airlifted to Canberra Hospital.
Police said at about 1.45pm on Tuesday, January 8, a RAV4 travelling south on the Hume Highway some 4.5km south of Lade Vale Road and about 15km east of Yass lost control and crashed into a guard rail.
An 18-year-old female front seat passenger with serious head injuries was airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a critical but stable condition, while the 53-year-old male driver, 39-year-old woman, and 14-year-old girl were treated for lacerations.
Both southbound lanes were closed to allow space for the helicopter to enter and leave the scene. One of the lanes reopened at about 3.45pm while the other lane remained closed for a longer period.
The Crash Investigation Unit, emergency services and Roads and Maritime Services attended the scene.
At 5pm there was a 6km queue of traffic.
