The culprits? His wife and daughters.
Now they need to dispose of the body.
And that they do – in macabre fashion.
That’s the set up for the Lieder Theatre’s first production of the year, a rehearsed reading of The Bleeding Tree.
The Bleeding Tree has been described as “rude, rhythmical and irreverently funny”.
The Australian called it “a great and complex production” while The Guardian called it “a powerful, visceral and deeply exhilarating theatre”.
The play is by Angus Cerini, who won the 2014 Griffin Award for it. It is being directed by Lieder artistic director Chrisjohn Hancock.
There will only be four shows from Friday, February 1 to Sunday, February 3. It will start at 8pm on the Friday, 2pm and 8pm on Saturday and 4pm on Sunday.
This play contains strong adult themes and violence and very coarse language.
The production has been licensed through the Australian Script Centre.
All tickets are $15.
There will plenty more plays, workshops and partnerships during the year.
In February, the theatre will host a visit from a Theatre director from Warsaw who will run workshops and perform, while the Youth Theatre will perform their Acrobatic Fire Show for Vibes Fest in Belmore Park.
In March, The Three Musketeers will be shown.
The Lieder will host a Children’s Theatre group from Nepal as part of a Youth Theatre Festival in April and will also continue its collaboration with The Goulburn Club to celebrate Shakespeare’s birthday.
In September the Lieder Theatre Company will go to Poland to perform before returning to present their end of year play.
