Not many people live to 100 years, but Goulburn CWA life member and patron Nancy Foord has.
You may recognise Mrs Foord’s face, if you have a copy of last year’s White Pages.
“I was on the front cover of the 2017/18 edition of the White Pages phone book,” Mrs Foord said. “I joined the CWA competition, which was run by Telstra. I was required to enter my favourite recipe and I chose a fruit cake, which won.
“I was very surprised to be given the title of Goulburn’s Undiscovered Baking Legend. But I felt proud to represent my region and share my recipe for all in the area to enjoy.”
Mrs Foord, who will turn 100 on February 13, was joined at the CWA celebration by great-grand daughter Heather Davey, grand-daughter Margaret Davey and daughter Elizabeth Ranger.
Mrs Foord says the key to a long and healthy life consists of healthy habits (and maybe that winning fruit cake). “I think not drinking helps a lot,” Mrs Foord said. “Working hard and living a good and relaxing country life can help, too.”
She was born and raised in Goulburn, and has lived in the city her whole life. Everything had changed so much throughout the years, she said. “Many years ago, Auburn Street was basically dirt,” she said.
“The roads were full of horses and carts back then.”
Mrs Foord has been with the CWA for more than 40 years, having been a member on-and-off. The CWA is the largest women’s association in the country and aims to make conditions better for both country women and children.
Everyone was in a fantastic mood at the lunch, which was held directly after their general meeting.
