Parvovirus Update
Canine parvovirus has been a major concern for dog owners in our community over the past few weeks, but I’m pleased to start this week’s column with a positive update.

Our Companion Animal Facility staff believe the risk is now much lower than what it has been, and have now returned to normal operations with some additional precautions in place focused around cleaning and withholding periods prior to animals being adopted. Our rangers can now again respond to all calls, and opening times will now resume with animal adoptions again available.
Dog off-leash parks are now again open, however we continue to recommend that people do not enter with their dogs unless vaccinations are up to date.
We would like to thank the community for your patience during the closure period and the support we received when making these tough calls. I would like to again emphasise the importance of vaccinating your animals – we have actually had dogs in the Companion Animal Facility over the past fortnight test positive for parvovirus, but they have survived due to previous vaccinations.
First Council Meeting of 2019
We held our first council meeting for 2019 on Tuesday night and made a number of decisions (which are available to view on our website):
A 28 day public consultation process will be undertaken on the proposal for the Goulburn Barefoot Water Ski Club to use Copford Reach on the Wollondilly River. This will include a Saturday morning trial of boats.
Council will offer heritage grant funding to seven properties in Auburn Street.
Council approved urgent urban road pavement rehabilitation on Union Street.
Public consultation on the closure of the intersection of Market & Auburn Streets will be deferred so that the focus of the community is on the other projects being promoted.
We will develop a plan of action to take to property owners in Goulburn for eradication of pigeons. Council will offer to contribute on a dollar for dollar basis to the program.
We will support a business case for funding of the smart street lighting program by the NSW Government and seek support from the local member.
Water Visioning Project
Can you imagine a Goulburn Mulwaree that is greener, cooler and a more beautiful place to live? We need our water supplies to be sustainable and affordable for the long term.
Council is working with the Cooperative Research Centre for Water Sensitive Cities and Water NSW to host a series of interactive workshops to develop a vision for Goulburn Mulwaree’s water future and the steps needed to achieve it.
If interested community members are invited to visit https://watersensitivecities.org.au/goulburn/ to register their interest.
