For over 14 years, many young students from the Goulburn district have been able to seek assistance to pursue their dreams by applying for a scholarship through the Goulburn District Education Foundation (GDEF).
The scholarships have assisted many Goulburn district school leavers to access further education, training and careers.
On February 5 the GDEF held its presentation of grants to some new school graduates from the region.
Margaret Hennessey from Boyce and Co Accountants said over 30 applications had been received for this round and 24 scholarships were handed out.
This is in addition to nine applicants who were re-funded.
“This is a record year,” she said.
“We had a really great response to the call out for applicants this year,” she said.
Foundation chairman Guy Milson said the GDEF is one of a collective of national fundraising committees collected under the umbrella of the Country Education Foundation of Australia.
“Our aim is to help school leavers in the Goulburn district achieve their dreams whether they be at tertiary or technical or TAFE level,” Mr Milson said.
The area covered includes Goulburn, Crookwell, Bigga, Binda, Gunning, Marulan and Taralga. The GDEF acknowledges the generous support of the Katz Family Foundation.
