Almost 30 riders signed on in what is becoming the most popular venue for cycling and there were several new faces trying out racing for the first time.
Thirty minutes plus two laps, repeat climbs and a strong headwind in the back straight would be a challenge for all the riders.
It was fast and tight racing in A Grade. Jacob Emmerton took the honours from Mark Gibson and Cameron Roberts.
Glen Apps proved too strong for Jeremy Gilchrist and newly promoted Robbie Dorsett in B Grade.
Boris Jakauhr (Coffs Harbour) and Nadine Moroney broke away at the half way mark opening up a handy lead. Mark Stutchbury, Jason Cook, Dale Nicholls Ted Goad and Chris Berry chased hard but could not bridge the gap and needed to be content with racing for third place.
Jason Cook in his first race decided to chance his arm with only Mark Stutchbury and Kiwi Dale Nicholls above to go with him.
Unfortunately the chasing three were unable to haul in the leaders. At the finish Boris Jakauhr out sprinted Nadine Moroney and Jason Cook rounded out the podium in third place.
In D Grade Fiona Berry did a mountain of work at the front for the race. Young Elsie Apps held onto Fiona’s wheel and popped out from behind when it counted to take out the win. Bill White finished in third place.
Junior Ryan Daniel, in his first race on the long course, performed honourably
Next Wednesday, February 20 racing is at Breadalbane for the Acciona Gunning Wind Farm Graded Scratch races. Sign on by 6pm at the church and racing starts at 6.30pm. New riders of any ability are welcome.
