The school gave Senior Constable Williams and Constable Upton “a huge thank you” for their generosity of time as students tried on vests and equipment, such as handcuffs.
‘You are not bullet proof’
Traffic and Highway Patrol Command’s Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy says he is perplexed by choices some drivers are making on taking control of a vehicle.
His comment came during a three-day, state-wide drink driving campaign over the weekend. Operation Drink Drive 1 began at 12.01am on Friday February 15 and concluded at 11.59pm on Sunday February 17.
“On day one of this operation, we have had a lot of anecdotal evidence about drivers being charged with mid-range and high-range offences,” he said. “If you have been drinking and drinking excessively, you need to realise you are not bullet proof.
“The risk you are placing on yourself but potentially your family and other people on the road can only be described as extreme. There is no room on our roads for this selfish, irresponsible, idiotic behaviour. “
On going to press, the running data stood at:
- Lives lost: 2
- Fatal crashes: 2
- Speeding fines: 666
- Breath tests: 75,104
- Drink driving charges: 23
- Seatbelt/helmet fines: 134
