The 2019 Goulburn Show is raring to go on the weekend of March 2 and 3.
The event features a variety of entertaining performers, fun rides, several prestigious animal shows and events, as well as many creative displays and competitions.
Importantly, in addition to enjoying all the aspects of the event as an onlooker, there are also many things you can actually participate in.
“We have some fantastic new and old competitions this year in the schedules that you all need to check out and enter,” says Jacki Waugh, president of the Goulburn AP&H Society who organise the event.
As an example, you can bring your dog along to have go in one of the jumping competitions.
There’s a fun scarecrow competition where everyone from individuals, to community groups, pre-schools, schools, nursing homes or clubs are encouraged to construct the best entry they can.
There’s a novelty teapot class in the flower schedule you can enter, and by doing so you’ll be helping the Goulburn Teapot Club raise funds for supporting children within the Autism Spectrum in the Goulburn region.
There are also plenty of experiences to enjoy, from having your photo taken with the EL Jay Freestyle Entertainment team when they're not doing stunt shows, to learning lots at the reptile and animal show run by Get Wild Animal Experiences.

Entertainment aplenty
There have been a few exciting additions and revisions to the schedule for the Goulburn Show on at Goulburn Showground this March 2 and 3.
Entertainment of many kinds is a key aspect of the event, as evidenced by the amazing things they have planned.
“Farmer Dave is opening our show for us this year,” says Jacki Waugh, Goulburn AP&H Society president.
The former male model, TV presenter and now professional animal behaviourist who does live shows in Australia and the USA, is bringing his DockDogs show to Goulburn, and it’s their first appearance in country NSW.
As part of their special brand of entertainment, watch the dogs jump as high and far as they can into a giant swimming pool. It’s also something you can be part of. There will be teams competing against each other and individual runs as well, plus you can also bring your own dogs down to have a go. Just send your entry request email to dockdogsau@gmail.com right now.

Another new feature for 2019 will be several performances by contortionist Bendy Em. “She will be performing three to four shows a day, in between our other local talent including Invert Gymnastic, Goulburn Martial Arts Academy, Goulburn Multicultural Zumba and others,” adds Jacki.
“Back after a short break will be Eljay Freestyle Entertainment with their thrills and spills show," Jacki continued. "Every kid young and old will love them.”
Another exciting new addition is actually part of a more ambitions project. The Goulburn Show Reel Short Film Festival, made possible thanks to a grant from the Southern Tablelands Arts and the State CASP Panel, will actually just be a taster of a local stand-alone film festival that will hopefully go ahead in the future.
The short-films entered will have been made locally in the past two years, run for five to ten minutes, and be rated PG or G so they are suitable for family viewing. The judging will be conducted by way of People's Choice, so you get to help decide who wins each category.
Fun and learning for the kids
The Goulburn Show will have loads of fun and educational things for your children to enjoy and discover.
New for 2018 will be the team from Get Wild Animal Experiences, a reptile and animal show. They'll be bringing various lizards, snakes and deceptively cute young crocodiles to talk about with the audiences.
Still with animals, Fletcher's Ark Animal Nursery will be back and they are always popular. The Alpaca Youth Paraders will also be there again, where you can see our local youth in action.
Bubble Muffin will be back too, encouraging healthy cooking fun for kids.
Face painting will be available, as will sideshow alley with various rides and showbags to thrill them.
The Sheepdog trials should be interesting for them, and the dog high jump should be captivating to watch.
Bendy Em will be fascinating, EL Jay Freestyle and whip cracker Stewart Bryant will be impressive, and the short-film festival will be family friendly.
The best animals, produce and art
Along with all the fast-paced excitement organised for the Goulburn Show, there will also be many competitions and displays that show the high quality, and creativity, of what we can grow or make locally.
For instance, you're encouraged to enter one of the cooking competitions, by making the best jam, best decorated cake or biscuits or scones you can. There are even categories for junior cooks to enter.
Home brewers have a competition to enter their various creations, and you can come to enjoy Stockade Brewery's beer tasting stall.
Animal breeders and enthusiasts will be competitively showing a wide variety of creatures including cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, as well as cattle and poultry. There will also be a sheep wool display.
People will also be showing themselves in the Showgirl, Junior Showgirl and the Master Showman events.
Growers of various fruit, veg and flowers will be showcasing their best and, in some cases their biggest, efforts.
The district bee keepers will be there too.
Various forms of art from photography to painting will be on show, and there will also be a colouring competition at the event for your children to participate in.
Come and see what the Men's Shed can make, or what the regional woodworkers and gem club have created, or be fascinated by the chainsaw sculpting.
Local hand spinners and weavers will be there too.
The Needlecraft Section is hoping to attract any exhibit that has been made using a needle or on needles.
"This year we have opened the sections so that if your item does not easily fit the traditional sections we can find a place for it," the organisers said.
"We would love to see more embroidery work and new techniques. Once again the Needlecraft Section is looking forward to receiving the high quality of exhibits we have received in the past. We would also like to take the opportunity to thank the Marulan Branch of the CWA of their generous sponsorship."
Trade, industry, farm and machinery displays will also be at the Goulburn Show, along with classic and vintage cars on display.
Some healthy competitions
The competitions that will take place as part of the 2019 Goulburn Show - on from March 2 to 3 at the Goulburn Recreation Area Showground - include various forms of sporting activity.
Horse lovers can enjoy the Southern Tablelands Showjumping Cup both days.
Also for equine enthusiasts, the bending, flag and barrel races for various age groups down to under 9s will be held on the Saturday, with cash prizes on offer and entries opening at 9am on the day for a 10am start.
Also on Saturday will be the draft, heavy and light harness events.
"This year the draughts and heavies will be judged by the well respected judge and breeder, Tim Peel from Wagga Wagga," the organisers said. Mr Peel will also be the light harness judge.
On the Sunday there will be five rings operating for the led and ridden categories of galloways, Australian saddle ponies, Australian riding ponies, thoroughbreds and warmbloods. As such, there will be rider competitions for all ages from beginners to senior riders, as well as a dedicated Pony Club ring.
Elsewhere in the showground precinct, the awesome axe men and women will be into full swing for the wood chopping events from 10.30am Sunday.
Cash prizes are on offer for placing across a number of wood chopping categories, and entries are about to close so be quick if you want to participate. Go to the 'Competitions' section of the Goulburn Show website.
Skills will also be tested in the The Young Farmers Challenge. As described on the entry form, this "is designed to promote excellence in farming and showcase the involvement of youth in agriculture through a display of the skills, equipment and techniques farmers use every day."
Additionally, and as with any sport, "Emphasis is placed on completing each challenge in the fastest time with the correct technique and safe work method."
For the best team of competitors, prizes for The Young Farmers Challenge will include tickets to the 2019 Royal Easter Show plus team t-shirts because the winning team will represent Goulburn Show at the 2019 Sydney Royal Easter Show on Saturday April 20, 2019.
Dog owners will be able to bring their pet on a lead to have a crack at the popular dog high jump competition.
See www.goulburnshow.com.au for details on all the above or just come along to watch and cheer.
