Coordinators of the Goulburn Parkinson's Disease Support Group, Gill and Michael O'Connor, have organised A Shakin' Cocktail Party to raise money for the disease.
In 2002, Michael was diagnosed with the illness at the age of 48, with two children in primary school, his life was about to change dramatically.
It has long been a dream of the Gill and Michael's to have a specialist Parkinson's neurological nurse in the Goulburn area.
They are working hard to achieve this goal by raising funds with the support of the local community.
"We are still a way off in seeing our dreams come to reality," said Gill.
Recently, Michael has undergone deep brain stimulation surgery which has given him a second chance at enjoying life. The surgery is not a cure but assists with the management of the disease.
Parkinson's disease has no cure, it is a slowly progressive, neuro-degenerative disease that effects movement and co-ordination.
The couple set up a local support group in 2006.
The group meets on the second Thursday of the month at the Goulburn Workers Club, 10:30am.
Every other Thursday they meet for a pilates session at Miracle Massage.
In 2018, the Goulburn Workers Club promised $60,000 to support Gill and Michael's cause.
This year's event will be hosted by Ryan Gallagher, from Married At First Sight, and the Spooky Men's Chorale will provide entertainment throughout the evening.
Guests will have the opportunity to win $1,000 cash donated by Ganter Constructions.
A raffle with various prizes will also be held and tulip bulbs, the symbol of Parkinson's, and Cadbury chocolates will be sold to help raise funds.
Another major sponsor for the cause has been the Goulburn Invitational.
In 2018 the event attracted a sellout crowd of 250 people.
A Shakin' Cocktail Party will be held on April 12 at the Goulburn Workers Club commencing 6pm.
Tickets are $65 each and include a two-course dinner and two drinks.
