Goulburn Multicultural Centre
Thank you to all who came to the recent Goulburn Multicultural Festival. It was a very colourful program with the two Chinese Lions and a New Year Pig parading through Belmore Park, to the delight of everyone. There were over 20 groups on stage with lines throughout the day at the multicultural street food stalls. Thanks to all those who stayed on for the Vibes Fest in the evening, featuring a stunning fire dance.

Our next big event is Harmony Day in the Park next Thursday, March 21, from 11am-1pm at Belmore Park, organised by Goulburn Multicultural Centre. Lots of cultural performances including schools and local communities as well as free street food.
Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Day. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect.
People can choose to wear something orange on March 21 to show their support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia. However, please drop by Belmore Park in your non-orange casuals or business clothes during your lunch break. We would love you to come as you are.
The message of Harmony Day is ‘everyone belongs’. Everyone is invited to join in the community celebration, respect cultures and religions, and foster a sense of belonging for all.
Held every year on March 21, the day coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Since 1999, more than 70,000 Harmony Day events have been held in childcare centres, schools, community groups, churches, businesses and federal, state and local government agencies across Australia.
It is interesting that almost half of Australians were either born overseas or have at least one parent who was.
