School P&Cs took full advantage of the steady line of hungry voters who made their way to polling stations on Saturday.
"Goulburn West's cake stall is the best," declared Goulburn Votes Facebook site coordinator, Chris Gordon, as he toured the booths.
At Goulburn South School, just opposite the Scout Hall booth, Donna Mikulich and Lisa McGoogan did a steady trade.
Around at the equally busy Goulburn High School polling station, Renee Woodberry and daughter Meg cooked up a storm with sausage sandwiches and bacon and egg rolls. Hume MP Angus Taylor, campaigning nearby for Liberal candidate Wendy Tuckerman, highly recommended the latter.
Mrs Woodberry, the school's P&C president, said the money would go towards upgrade of lockers, estimated to cost $15,000.
"That's a lot of barbecues," she quipped.
At Bradfordville Public School, voters took in a host of market stalls, including cakes, and a barbecue.
"We're raising money for our adventure playground, to buy the soft squishy stuff for the ground so we don't hurt ourselves when we fall," one young student explained.
Voters sat on bench seats and took in the sounds of the Goulburn Regional Ukulele Band, or GRUB, as they like to call themselves.
But the district was just as busy with cake stalls at Tarago Hall and Wingello Public School.
At Collector, the village's Community Association turned on a market day brimming full with the district's produce.
Association secretary Gary Poile said the day raised money for Collector hall improvements but was also a chance to survey residents on how to make the village sustainable environmentally, economically and from a lifestyle point of view.
"There's an opportunity to be carbon neutral because we're a small village," he said.
Bike paths and clearing weeds from Mill Hill Reserve, dubbed "the jewel in the crown," were just some of the ideas to be used as the basis of a master plan to be put before Upper Lachlan Shire Council.
It all provided plenty of food for thought.
