Police said the Canberra resident, aged in his 50s, had a "microsleep" while at the wheel about 1pm on Sunday March 24.
The driver escaped unharmed, though a police rescue car was sent to help extract the man from the wreck.
A Rural Fire Service truck also attended the scene.
Police said the southbound white Toyota RV was a write-off after the crash.
A tow truck came to pick up the vehicle, and traffic experienced minimal disruption.
No charges were laid against the driver, police said.
It was a busy hour for emergency services, with reports of simultaneous crashes at Gunning and Marulan to attend.
