The Greyhounds as Pets (GAP) program for re-training and re-homing these animals to be a loved member of your family expanded its operations to Goulburn in February.
The idea behind the program is to introduce the dogs to a new domestic life as a pet, and the staff put the effort in to match you and your family with a suitable greyhound based on their careful observations of each animal's personality.
To introduce this idea to locals they had a stand at the Goulburn Show earlier this month, and CEO of Greyhound Racing NSW Tony Mestrov spoke about it in very positive terms.
"We had 10 volunteers and 18 greyhounds there, and 1000 people came through asking about the program, both adoption and fostering," he said.

Mr Mestrov pointed out that greyhounds make great pets because "they are a placid, lovable animal and easy to care for," with their very short hair.
Generally, greyhounds are no different to any other pet canine. Mr Mestrov says 35 minutes of walking a day is a good amount for them, and an average size yard is fine. They also love sleep and become very loyal.
The cost at the moment in Goulburn is tiny, and for a greyhound that is de-sexed, vaccinated, chipped and registered with council.
Mr Mestrov wanted to thank the Goulburn community for getting behind the program so enthusiastically already, and gave a special mention to Patrick Day from the Goulburn Greyhound Racing Club for his support of the GAP program coming to Goulburn.
