Paula St Vincent's story is one of them.

"In November 2017, my two uncles, both called Ronnie, were diagnosed with bowel cancer," Ms Vincent said.

"One was on my father's side of the family and one was on my mother's side.

She had been involved with the event on and off over the last six to eight years but decided to put in a team last year containing three generations who all took part for the whole 24 hours.

"Our family members came from Braidwood, Sutton, Canberra, Wollongong and Griffith to join us for the weekend.

"We walked the whole weekend with our mascot, a Relay for Life bear we named Brucie, and a photo of my sister in law's father John, who along with our Uncle Bruce, lost their battles with bowel cancer.

"Everyone camped out in a camper trailer and caravan, just outside under the shade tents.

"The kids all worked together to make Uncle Ronnie a boat for the cruise section.

The two Uncle Ronnies won a prize for one of the biggest teams in the relay and for walking the whole 24 hours.

Ms Vincent felt they had one of the greatest team atmospheres and were there to support one another.

Relay for Life will be on again in November this year and the two Ronnies are back.

To start things off, the Goulburn Workers Club will be hosting the Hope Ball on Saturday, April 27 from 6.30pm.

The 18+ event is a charity fundraiser that aims to raise vital funds in support of Goulburn and Surrounds Relay for Life.

Tickets are $50 and will go towards supporting the work of the Cancer Council in the Goulburn region.

Music will be provided by "Monkey Busters" on the night and there will be an auction of memorabilia and other items as well.
