SDN staff member Georgia Anable said one of the educators at the centre become aware of the initiative that the Defence Forces were holding this year to allow people to send over care packages for the deployed service personnel for Anzac Day.
"We put an announcement out to families asking if they would like to donate any goodies, with the hopes that we would be able to send off," she said.
"We had the goal to send four full boxes over, but in the following three days, we were able to successfully fill and send off a total of 23 boxes.
"The educators explained to the children the purpose of what we were doing and how the service personnel didn't have readily available home comforts and that they are far away from their homes and families for such extended periods of time working to help not only Australia, but other countries as well."
She said the boxes were carefully picked and packed by the children and filled with what they and their families enjoy the most.
"The boxes each had a letter and drawing from the children in Room 4 and a self-addressed return envelope in the hope of a response," she said.
"The prompt response from the families, children and educators was incredible and made us extremely proud of the caring community that we have at SDN Lady McKell."
