The theme for this year's ball is rockabilly, which is not only a genre of music but a lifestyle for some. Think Elvis Presley, Bill Hayley and Johnny O'Keefe.

Rockabilly has been described as the hybrid of blues and country, which developed into classic rock 'n' roll.

According to The History of Rock 'n' Roll, rockabilly was born on July 5, 1954 when Elvis Presley was recording with guitarist Scotty Moore and bass player Bill Black in a Memphis studio.

Elvis started mucking around and singing during a break in the recording when Bill Black decided to join in the fun, adding his slap-bass style.

The song was That's Alright Mamma and it became his first single release.

Goulburn White Ribbon committee member Bernadette Hilton is excited about this year's rockabilly theme

"My mother adored Bill Hayley and the Comets, Johnny O'Keefe and the like so this is the music I grew up with," Ms Hilton said.

"I remember insisting my mother try to teach me how to jive and swing dance in our lounge room when I was a teenager."

She said this year the committee remains focused on domestic violence, with hopes to compliment the Goulburn Says No movement.

"Our guest speaker this year is Goulburn-born, White Ribbon Ambassador Superintendent Robert Critchlow, who has a passion for addressing elder abuse and domestic violence. We are thrilled that he has volunteered his time for our event and this important issue," she said.

The Goulburn White Ribbon Rockabilly Ball is on Saturday, June 1 at the Goulburn Worker's Club (GWC). Tickets are $75 and include entry, three-course meal and live entertainment. Tickets from the club. The committee wants to hear from local businesses that could provide support.
