Last week, councillors considered a report on the Goulburn Hospital Upgrade Parking Proposal, following a consultation period undertaken by Health Infrastructure NSW.

As a council, we are looking to work collaboratively with Health Infrastructure to ensure the redevelopment of our hospital can occur efficiently, while also still having parking available for staff in the area (Goulburn Hospital, Goulburn High School) and those who need to visit the hospital. Our full resolution is available to view on our website in the minutes of the meeting, but the main points are listed below:
- Council resolved to support and implement the timed parking restrictions (as illustrated).
- Health Infrastructure will be required to develop a contractor parking facility on the government-owned land at the corner of Fitzroy Street and Mount Street.
- Parking exemption permits will be issued to staff from Goulburn Health Service and Good Start Early Child Care Centre and staff and students at Goulburn High School.
- Parking exceptions not to apply to staff and students in the two hour parking restriction areas.
- Parking exemption permits will also be issued to residents who live within the timed parking areas, plus an additional permit for each residence for a visitor.
Recreational Needs Strategy
There has been plenty of discussion recently in the media, on Facebook and as I speak with people around town regarding our draft Recreational Needs Strategy.
The strategy was undertaken to generate discussion and to provide a framework for future investment in open space and recreation facilities to address existing and future needs of the community across the Goulburn Mulwaree local government area.
Some members of our community have jumped to conclusions and claimed that assets such as Hudson Park are being sold off - this is simply not true. We are taking a holistic approach in looking at the provision of open space and recreation facilities for our community, as this is a critical element in the overall feel of a regional city like Goulburn.
Council will be considering the results of the consultation period at an upcoming meeting, likely in June.
Wendell Rosewarne Walkway Unveiling
I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to the plaque unveiling of the Wendell Rosewarne Walkway taking place on May, 28 at 11am, Victoria Park Goulburn. This will be followed by light refreshments at the Goulburn Mulwaree Council Chambers, 184 Bourke Street, Goulburn.
As you would be aware, Wendell Rosewarne was a local man who was considered a great ambassador for Goulburn and the region. He rode his red 'postie' bike thousands of kilometres raising money for numerous charities, was a torch bearer for the 2000 Olympics and played over 400 AFL games for the Goulburn Swans. His contributions to the Goulburn community were immense and your attendance at this walkway unveiling is warmly welcomed.
