An $18,000 purchase from the 2018 Australian Pacing Gold sale in Sydney, Rockin With Elvis started as a $2.80 favourite and dominated proceedings in the $12,240 Goulburn Soldiers Club Sapling Stakes which was held last Monday afternoon at the Goulburn Paceway.
Trained and driven by Brad Hewitt, the Rock N Roll Heaven gelding was selected by Brad at the APG sale, and has quickly rewarded his big group of owners with their second win from only four starts.
Starting from gate three, Rockin With Elvis was briskly taken to the front at the start and, after withstanding a momentary challenge from Topzavski, was allowed to dictate the pace from there on throughout the rest of the race.
With the first half raced in a leisurely 62.8 seconds, Hewitt and Rockin With Elvis sprinted home in quarters of 28.9 and 27.6 to score an easy 9.4 metres win in a moderate 1:58.4 mile rate.
The second to cross the line was the Neil Day trained and driven Better Than Magic to make it a Goulburn quinella finish. A further nose back in third place was the visitor from the Riverina, Realnspectacular, who hailed from the Terry Coelli stable.
The smart gelding will now be aimed at richer prizes with Hewitt indicating at the on-track presentation that his next target was the Breeders Challenge Series which is set to commence next week in regional centres around the state.
Stable spokesman Jed Naum added "He's a very nice two year old who's still learning what it's all about; he should hopefully make a good three year old."
Following the Breeders Challenge Series which concludes with $125,000 finals at Menangle on June 30, Rockin With Elvis may be targeted at the $50,000 APG Championships in July.
