At 8.30pm on Saturday May 18, calculated by the Australian Electoral Commission's projected two candidate preferred tally for Hume, Mr Taylor had a projected 62.71 percent of the vote with a 2.53 swing.
Labor candidate Aoife Champion had a projected 37.29 percent.
Fifty of 68 polling places had returned, and 36.76 percent of votes had been counted.
Nationally, the Liberal Party was ahead on 63 seats; Labor, on 60; the greens, one; and five for independents/others.
Twenty two seats were still undecided; and pre-poll votes, varying between 20 and 30 percent nationally, were still outstanding.
