According to the council data, the quarterly audit for June revealed 223 occupancies and 20 vacancies in CBD.

While the figures reflect a slight decrease from 225 occupancies since the last audit undertaken in March and increase from 18 vacancies, statistics reveal that the occupancies have increased since September last year.

In September 2018, there were 213 occupancies in CBD which increased to 221 in December.

Meanwhile, the Auburn Street vacancy decreased from 21.1 per cent in September, 2018 to 13.6 per cent in June this year, a slight increase from 13pc in March.

Total CBD vacancy as per the audit in June is 9pc. There is one vacancy in Goulburn Marketplace and one in Goulburn Square.

The CBD figures include Auburn Street shops, Goulburn Square and Goulburn Marketplace Shops.

While there are several properties currently lying vacant, some new businesses have come up in the area.

Brooke Williams, owner of 'Rumours + Runways' boutique at Auburn Street, which caters to women, opened recently in the month of December last year.

"So far, the response we have received has been positive," she said.

"We started this as a pop up store and had the initial plans of running the business for only eight weeks. However, the demand was great, so we decided to continue with the store. Everything is the store is under $100 and is extremely affordable."
