But you may not realise that we are also harvesting plenty of solar energy in our region.
The Gullen Wind and Solar Farm has 42,000 photovoltaic panels that produce 10MW of electricity when operating at full capacity.
These, combined with the wind turbines on the site, generate enough energy to power 70,000 homes on an average sunny and windy day.
Plans are well underway for an even bigger solar farm at Gunning.
