In a written statement, the incumbent GM advised the council that he would not seek renewal nor reappointment of his contract.
His contract expires on February 18, 2020. This will formally be his last day of work.
"On behalf of the council and the community, I would like to thank and acknowledge John for his outstanding service," mayor John Stafford said.
"Under John's leadership,we have seen the delivery of several major projects: the delivery of significant water supply upgrades in Gunning and Dalton, Taralga and Crookwell; construction of the new Taralga sewerage scheme connection; Crookwell and Gunning skate parks; the Crookwell digital television retransmission tower; and sealing of much of the Shire's road network."
The council's top administrative job will be filled with the help of an executive recruitment consultant.
Mr Bell is presently on long service leave and due to return on September 2.
