Goulburn locals Glenn and Bec Turner have now taken over the lease of Tully Park Indoor Centre and they have devised some plans to make even better use of the facilities.
Glenn is a former Olympian having represented Australia in hockey, and Bec is a personal trainer who is soon set to get right back into her long-term passion after having a little time off to give birth to the couple's fourth child recently.
For the July school holidays they have a multi-sport coaching clinic available for five to 12 year olds to help develop skills like coordination and a little bit of fitness as well. On from July 8 to 10, Glenn designed the course because he believes it is beneficial for children to learn different sports and skills before they think about specialising in one.
In the second week of the school holidays Glenn and some of his fellow hockey coaches will also run specialist clinics for juniors and teens. For those that want to continue, these clinics can also carry through into the nine week programs that start in the new term.
Glenn is really proud of these hockey clinics, having run them in Goulburn, Canberra and the Highlands.
"After nine or ten weeks in an elite clinic they're a different athlete," Glenn says, referring to both their fitness level and their skill.
"The results with juniors have been pretty awesome. I learned the hard way, and I'm still learning," he says. And this is someone who has played in club competitions in Holland, Belgium, India, and Malaysia, as well as representing Australia in two Olympics and two World Cups.

In other sports, from the start of the new term they are establishing an indoor six-a-side netball competition so get yourself a team together for that. And although someone else runs the indoor cricket, Glenn and Bec have ensured that group can continue as well.
Also at the start of next term Glenn and Bec will be recommencing their own respective fitness courses.
Glenn runs the Challenge Crew. This is a 10 week program for anyone wanting to get fitter and feel good in a structured and supported environment.
It's aimed at all current fitness levels, and Glenn says "It's been going really well. It's the main reason we took over Tully."
They also find themselves doing other fitness activities outside the Challenge Crew. For instance, Glenn got roped in to do Goulburn Parkrun one Saturday morning when his hockey team (he still plays every weekend) had a bye round.
Spartan Race, Stadium Stomp, and a 5km foam race in Sydney at the end of the year are all on the agenda for a number of Challenge Crew participants.
Meanwhile Bec runs Girl's Squad, and other than her maternity break has been hands-on for these 10 week courses out of Tully for the past year already, and operated from home before that.
The next Girl's Squad also starts in the new term, and as the name suggests this one is for ladies only to feel comfortable and to support each other. "I wanted to create a group where it was inclusive, for any fitness level or age. It's child-friendly too, so you can be mums and bubs," Bec says.
Bec tells us that the participants also get more out of it than they originally expected. "The women come and generally just want to lose weight, but in the end it's about their confidence and to feel good from the inside," Bec says.
Building strength both physically and emotionally, Bec also offers tips on nutrition and they even have social activities like regularly going for a coffee.
