Gallery on Track vice president Penny Saxton talked through the exhibition's formation at a Sunday launch.
She described some some pieces evoked a sense of 'close encounters' in love, in leisure, in life; even in garbage, "no longer looking like it once might have".
Indeed, the photo series Sweet Tooth by Karen Egan depicts a pile of used soft drink cans, some in cameo, "crushed, piled and stacked; it's a world of its own."
Gesturing at a wall display of jewellery, the viewer had to get close to view them, she said; and miniature dioramas of rock-climbing and tightrope-walking conveyed close encounters with daring and mortality.
Fine works of cross stitch and pencil drawings further showed close attention in encountering their detail.
A tutu (sadly since outgrown) made for a loved grand daughter was a close encounter of creative labour.
"So there are all different sorts of aspects with close encounters," Saxton said. "There's lots to think about."
Close Encounters at Gallery on Track, Blackshaw Road (first right-hand turn coming off the Sloane Street roundabout), on now until Sunday July 28.
