The new Lansdowne Bridge is almost complete, with just some of the finishing touches to be done before the bridge is scheduled to open.
A Transport for NSW spokesperson said work on the new Lansdowne Bridge was progressing well
"The project is on schedule for completion mid-2019, weather permitting," the spokesperson said.
More specifically, they said: "the project is on the homeward stretch and is anticipated to be completed in the coming weeks."
The remaining works include:
- applying waterproofing seal and asphalt wearing surface on the new bridge deck
- construction of the final road pavements on the approaches to the bridge
- fencing and landscaping
- installing traffic railings and guardrail
- signage and line marking.
"We thank the community for their patience during bridge construction," the spokesperson said.
Goulburn Mulwaree Council has some final work to do before the bridge opens as well.
A council spokesperson said the pavement works on the approaches is progressing well, with kerb and gutter work to begin next week.
"Once this kerb and guttering work is complete, we will begin the final seal, and at this stage we are hoping to have the council works complete in mid-August, obviously depending on the weather being suitable."
The former 1902 De Burgh truss timber bridge was closed in July, 2016 as the result of significant structural safety concerns.
Demolition of the former timber bridge began in November, 2017 and was completed in June, 2018. Work on the new concrete bridge began shortly afterwards.
The total cost of the new bridge is $18.6m.
