The Fred McClelland Constructions Scratch Race and Individual Time Trial started from the corner of Chinamans Lane and extended out over the rolling hills to the turnaround at Lambs Lane. Two 20km races would test the legs of all the riders.
A and B Grade riders set off first and maintained a solid pace to the turnaround. Robbie Dorsett lead the peloton through the turnaround and with Glen Apps and Andrew Stewart upped the pace to try and shake off the other riders. Gavin Moroney was the first to crack follow shortly aft by Angus Taylor. Angus clearly had not fully recovered from the efforts on his recent Pollie Pedal Ride.
The peloton stayed together until Robbie Dorset surged off the front at Baw Baw Road opening up what proved to be a race winning gap. The rest of the peloton has to settle for the minor placings. A blanket could have been thrown over the remaining riders but it was Glen Apps taking out second place closely followed by Andrew Stewart, Jeremy Gilchrist, Jason Pattison and Wayne Bensley.
In C and D Grade Phil Hanson applied the pressure right from the start with only three riders surviving to contest the final sprint. Coffs Harbour rider, Boris Svrznjak, turning out for his last local race with the Goulburn Club before returning home, managed to edge ahead of Phil Champion and Phil Hansen in a thrilling sprint finish.
Only five riders backed up for the Individual Time Trial over the same course with eight abandoning the Tour. After his recent infractions in the Ken Dinnerville Handicap last weekend Jeremy Gilchrist managed to make the start line. The Commissaires had their eye on him ensuring his bike was weighed and measured and that he had the necessary drug clearance before being waved away.
In the race against the clock, Robbie Dorset proved far too strong with Jeremy Gilchrist second and Jason Pattison third.
Next Saturday racing is on Middle Arm Road for the Ganter Constructions Handicap. Sign on by 1.45pm opposite the cemetery and racing starts at 2pm. New riders are welcome.
Next Sunday, a dozen Goulburn riders will be heading to Nowra to compete in the fourth round of the Interclub Series. Good luck to all riders.
