Crookwell II Wind Farm is now offering renewable energy tours.
Following on from the great interest generated by renewable energy tours at the Gullen Range Wind and Solar Farm, Crookwell II Wind Farm is now also offering tours, with the next tour scheduled for Tuesday, August 13.
Crookwell II Wind Farm features 28 turbines with massive, 130 metre diameter rotors. The wind farm has a capacity of 91 MW, which is enough to supply 42,000 homes. Electricity generated here is purchased by the ACT government under contract to help achieve its legislated 100 percent renewable energy target by the year 2020.
Crookwell II Wind Farm is located south east of Crookwell on the Goulburn Road, adjacent to the original Crookwell I Wind Farm, which was commissioned in 1998 as the first grid connected wind farm in Australia.
Tours commence at 11.30am from the Crookwell Hotel Motel in the heart of Crookwell. The tour includes a preliminary overview of the renewable energy industry and safety briefing, after which you embark on a minibus that takes you to the wind farm. Please be aware that tour participants cannot self-drive for safety reasons. The tour takes approximately two hours, followed by complimentary light lunch in the bistro at the Crookwell Hotel Motel.
- Tours are free, but advance bookings are essential. Bookings may be made online at www.trybooking.com/eventlist/crookwell or by contacting the Crookwell Visitor Information Centre on (02) 4832 1988
