The girls managed to make it to the grand final, only to go down 3-0 to a very well-drilled and skilful Griffith team.
The STFA side opened the day with a 1-0 win over the Wagga Wanderers with Lilly Skelly scoring just before full time. This was a close game in which the STFA girls were always in control, but could not force the ball through a strong Wagga defence.
The second game of the day was against Griffith who scored the only goal of the game late in injury time in the first half.
This was a very close and exciting game with both sides having chances to score but strong defence saw the full-time score 1-0 to Griffith
The Tablelands side could consider themselves unlucky not to have scored two goals in the second half as two shots hit the cross bar and only just sailed over the goals.
Their third game of the day was against Bathurst and the STFA Girls needed a win or a draw to make it to the Finals. The game started off at a fast pace with end to end soccer as both Teams tried to get the upper hand but in the end the game ended in a nil all draw and saw the STFA side into the final against Griffith.
The final saw the Griffith Team run out winners 3-0, but not before the STFA side put in one of their best games of the season.
Griffith started off with a goal in the second minute of the game. This got the STFA girls fired up and they proceeded to take the game to Griffith.
However, on the stroke of half time the referee awarded a penalty to Griffith and the penalty taker gave the STFA goalkeeper no chance of saving the shot.
The girls ran out for the second half determined to level the score, but the Griffith team were a class act and scored in the 13th minute of the second half to put the game out of reach for the STFA girls.
The 3-0 loss was the worst defeat for the STFA Girls this representative season.
Across the season, they have played 14 games for nine wins, one draw and just four losses.
They have scored 26 goals and have only had seven scored against them. This is a record which it is hard to see another team overhauling anytime soon.
Overall, it has been a phenomenal season for the young side, and as many of the girls will play together again in future years, do not be surprised if the successes continue to roll.
For now, the girls can relax and enjoy the fantastic string of results they have compiled over the last few months.
