It's National Science Week and to mark the occasion local artists and ecologists are collaborating through art and science to help communicate the importance of wildlife corridors in a workshop series initiated by Southern Tablelands Arts with the NSW Government Saving our Species program, Landcare and Glideways.

Habitat corridors are vitally important to wildlife. Isolated parks and reserves are not adequate to sustain populations. Our plants and animals need to be able to move freely between these areas of habitat, just like humans need to move between home, work and the supermarket our wildlife need to be able to do the same to find food, love and a place to raise their babies.
The Goulburn and Yass regions are part of a larger landscape corridor known as the Great Eastern Ranges Initiative that has a vision to reconnect the parks and reserves from the Grampians in Victoria along the Great Dividing Range through to far north Queensland.
This is being achieved locally through programs such as Rivers of Carbon restoring important River Connections in the Goulburn district, the Yass Habitat Linkages across the Yass Valley, The Kanangra-Boyd to Wyangala link securing a corridor from the Blue Mountains to Wyangala Dam and the Great Western Corridor that connects Tallong and Bungonia through to the coast.
We can all help to support the work that is being done by these initiatives by improving habitat on rural properties, in our backyards, schools and parks.
