After a massive scare, the Taralga Tigers are through to the grand final of the South Coast Monaro second division after beating the Jindabyne Bushpigs 32-27 at the Taralga Showground on Saturday, August 17.
The Tigers scored the opening two tries and were in the box seat for the majority of the match, but when the away side took the lead with seven minutes left, alarm bells were ringing. Not for long though.
A very late try to Will Hedley sent the Tigers into ecstasy.
"It was an amazing game, especially after they got the try with about seven minutes to go," Tigers coach Evan Rees said.
"A lot of teams could have folded and dropped their heads, but these guys showed a lot of fighting spirit.
"The boys held in there and with five minutes left, got the try in the end."
The game plan for the home side heading into the match was to keep the ball away from Jindabyne and that was exactly what they did.
"We knew we had a tough game on our hands today," Rees said.
"They're a class team and have a lot of individual stars that are very dangerous.
"We knew we'd have to keep the ball off them as much as we could and keep the ball in hand.
"We didn't want to kick away possession and give them opportunities."
Rees was extremely grateful for the home support, not only on the day, but all season, and said he wanted to repay them with a grand final win.
"The support we get is tremendous," he said. '
"We look forward to next week where we will have an even bigger crowd getting behind the boys."
The Tigers will be hoping to play their best game of the year in the grand final against the Crookwell dogs on Saturday, August 24 from 2.30pm at the Crookwell Memorial Oval.
