While there was little doubt about the eventual outcome of Sunday's match, Goulburn coach Adam Kyle has spoken all season about the dangers of complacency.
The Bulldogs quickly showed that they had taken his message to heart on the weekend, as they put Gungahlin to the sword to claim the biggest win in any first grade match for the season.
The win sends Goulburn into its semi-final on a high, but Kyle described an interesting chat he had with the team ahead of the match.
"It's really funny, we had the bye last weekend and there was a lot of talk with the boys whether we're better off going in against Gungahlin or one of the top teams," he said.
"[In the end] it's not about who we play, it's about our football."
The Bulldogs will need to bring their best football to the park this weekend against the Roos.
Though Goulburn won the first encounter between the two sides in round one, the Roos won the rematch by four points in round 10 and have entered a hot streak in recent weeks.
Prior to their tough win against Belconnen United on Saturday (28-20), the Kangaroos hammered the competition-leading Tuggeranong Bushrangers, 44-12.
Kyle knows that the Kangaroos have form and confidence on their side, but added that Goulburn's mauling of Gungahlin will have a positive impact on the team.
"[The win] is a big confidence boost for the boys, we're obviously a confident side with our attack," he said.
"Going in this weekend against the Roos, they beat us a couple of weeks ago. They're a really battle hardened side and they'll turn up with the expectation that they're going to get us."
Should the Bulldogs win this weekend, they will play the loser of the major semi-final between the Bushrangers and the Blues.
The match between Goulburn and the Roos will start from 3pm on Saturday, August 24, at the Goulburn Workers Arena.
