A production hub for the Goulburn Evening Penny Post, now Goulburn Post, since 1935, the site is a known and loved landmark on the city's main street.
Listed by Ray White Real Estate in Goulburn, it is anticipated the property will be auctioned at the firm's Sydney salesroom mid-October via live-stream.
The Post will continue to publish daily online and tri-weekly in print at a new city site with a modern fit-out for staff, clients and customers.
Ray White Goulburn selling principal Justin Gay said he was excited to see the property enter the market as a unique building with a "particularly wonderful heritage".
"I'd expect we'd have local and [metro] competition with owner-occupiers and property investors alike keen on it as a big building in a prominent city position," he said.
Goulburn Post sales manager Rosey Stronach said she too was "so excited for all of our staff, moving to a new premises custom built for us, and the opportunity to see the building developed into something magnificent and used to its fullest extent".
The Post is one of 160 titles in Australian Community Media (ACM), acquired by business associates Anthony Catalano and Alex Waislitz for $115 million this year.
Mr Catalano suggested in July they would likely sell ACM's property holdings, valued at $60 million, as an opportunity to invest back into the media business.
While many aspects of the building have been adapted over the years, the remnants of times past are still present.
There's still a large space towards the back lane where the printing press once ran, disused darkrooms, and a "haunted" first floor (according to late-night newsroom folklore).
Bound archives of previous print copies dating back decades, presently lining the meeting room, and reams of photo prints will be assured proper storage in consultation with History Goulburn.
In the lead up to the auction and anticipated sale, the Post will take a look back at the history and heritage of the paper and building, as it continues to look to the future of local news.
