It's a no-brainer - she's asking me to care. A shift is happening. The kids are younger, smarter, braver and louder!
Last November, 70 people gathered outside Angus Taylor's office before school. Children and young people showed up in school uniform along with working adults and retirees, all deeply concerned about the lack of political leadership on climate change.
This year scientists have called a climate emergency. You must have been under a rock not to have seen the catastrophic fires across NSW and Queensland this past week and three NSW towns with no water supply.
Friday, September 20, is the next national student climate strike and people will again gather at 8am outside the Energy Minister's office.
Before you judge, take a minute to think. Perhaps you don't see - as they do - a world dying before your eyes or the oceans drowning in plastic. Perhaps you want to go back to a comfortable world but the kids get in the way.
Were kids in the way when you grew up? I don't think so. Even when families were touched by war, droughts or floods, our forebears believed the young deserved a better life. Education and a job. Running water. Rivers to swim in when it was hot and trees to climb for the heck of it.
Be proud of our Aussie kids on September 20 and show you care enough to hear them speak. Like us, they deserve a chance at a life worth living.
