He went St Joseph's Primary School and then to Goulburn High School before heading to study at the Southern Cross University in Lismore.
Unfortunately passed away in September 1999 due to an unexpected cerebral hemorrhage.
It's now been twenty years and his family have been keeping his legacy by hosting an annual Brainwake event to raise funds and awareness on the Brain Injury Unit in Goulburn.
Brainwake's 2019 event was a big success with over 200 people rocking over to the Goulburn Railway Bowling Club on Saturday, September 21.
Around $5000 was raised for the Brain Injury Unit.
Mr Hartnett's mother Cheryl Hartnett said the funds would be extremely useful for them.
"The money goes towards physical therapy equipment for people who have had a brain injury," Cheryl said.
"It will help them to be a bit more independent and will give them a bit more purpose in life."
Cheryl was ecstatic with the way things panned out and thought the music was fantastic as well.
"It was great to have everyone together and playing their music," she said.
"I could feel their sense of passion and their commitment to the memory of Tim."
The name Brainwake came about through a brainstorming session.
"The name had to have something to do with the brain and we thought it was catchy," Cheryl said.
The main aims of the day were to reconnect with family and friends and to raise awareness on brain injury.
Tim Hartnett was awarded with his degree posthumously.
