Goulburn Police Inspector John Sheehan said a white Holden Commodore failed to negotiate a bend in Garoorigang Road and crashed into the sandstone bridge, which forms a railway underpass, about 1.45am on November 1.
"The driver was taken to Goulburn Base Hospital with injuries to his arm and shoulder," Inspector Sheehan said.
"A blood sample was taken at the hospital and this will be analysed."
The car impacted heavily with the bridge, with all air bags being deployed.
The spot is notorious as a place where caravans and camping vehicles tend to lose air conditioners from the top of their vehicles, from misjudging the height of the bridge underpass.
This is despite Goulburn Mulwaree Council recently installing flashing warning signs on both sides of this underpass to warn drivers of its low clearance.
No charges have been laid, but police inquiries are continuing.
Coffee with a cop
Meanwhile, police are reminding residents that they can catch up with local police officers over a coffee today.
Inspector John Sheehan said it was a chance for police to interact with the community one-on-one in Leggett Park from 11am.
"People can ask any questions they have of police," Inspector Sheehan said.
"We will provide the coffee and Mission Australia will provide a barbecue.
"Usually with police, out interactions are in emergency situations so they may not be the best. This is more to build rapport with the community."
