The Southern Tablelandshas has been issued with an extreme fire danger rating for Tuesday.
"Under these conditions, if a fire starts it will move quickly, be difficult to control and leaving early is your safest option of survival," a spokesman said.
"We urge people across the Zone to take some time this evening to consider their bushfire survival plan.
"Please inform yourself of the fire activity in your area by using the Fires Near Me App, NSW Rural Fire Service Website and remembering that the ABC is the emergency broadcaster."
With a total fire ban still in place, all fires need to be reported to triple zero (000).
Earlier:
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast that conditions in the Southern Tablelands will worsen on Tuesday, with high winds increasing the risk of fire outbreaks.
"At 10.15 this morning, we have just issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds for the Goulburn region," the spokesperson said.
"Ahead of a front that is going to come through the winds from the north-west will pick up significantly with very strong wind gusts, up to 70km/h.
"This will happen from sunrise Tuesday (November 12) and will increase throughout the day. It really does funnel through that Goulburn area and anything that starts is going to take off.
"A southerly change will come through the area by the evening, hitting Nowra at about 5pm and then travelling inland."
Total fire ban
A statewide total fire ban is now in force.
A spokesperson from the NSW RFS said this means no fires can be lit out in the open anywhere in NSW, for all of Monday and Tuesday.
In the Southern Tablelands the fire ban comes ahead of expected worsening conditions heading into Tuesday.
"Very dangerous fire conditions are forecast for Tuesday. Avoid bush fire prone areas," the spokesperson said.
"Severe and Extreme fire danger is forecast for many areas. Under tomorrow's weather conditions, these fires will spread quickly and threaten lives and properties."
Be prepared
The RFS spokesperson said people should use Monday to prepare.
"Use today to get ready and know what you will do to reduce your risk," they said.
During the fire ban these things are banned:
- General purpose hot works (such as welding, grinding or gas cutting or any activity that produces a spark or flame) are not to be done in the open.
- Wood or solid fuel barbecues are also banned.
- All fire permits are suspended on days of total fire ban.
See this link, which is a document from the RFS about being prepared for a bushfire:
"By now everyone is aware of the devastating events unfolding up north of the state, but have you stopped and had a good think about how prepared are you if a major fire was burning near you," a police spokesperson said.
Further total fire ban rules are available on the NSW Rural Fire Service website.
Residents can stay up-to-date on nearby fires by visiting www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information, by calling the Bush Fire Information Line on 1800 679 737 or by downloading the 'Fires Near Me' app for smart devices. Residents should report unattended fires to Triple Zero (000) immediately.
