McGrath is considered to be one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time, taking 563 Test match wickets at an average of 21.64 from 124 matches played.
And on Thursday, he took to the field once again. But this time, he partook in one of the three stations that were part of the clinic.
After about an hour of fielding alongside the children of the Goulburn District Junior Cricket Association, McGrath entered the Ken Robson pavilion, where he answered questions about his career, signed autographs, and posed for photos with parents and kids alike.
While McGrath is no stranger to these kinds of events, his patience and humility stood out as he made time for every one of the attendees who wanted autographs, pictures, or just to have a chat.
The anticipation around McGrath's visit was intense, and the 49-year-old said that passion was the most important thing for young sportspeople.
"Especially the younger ones, it's just getting them out there and getting them running around," McGrath said.
"I grew up in a small country town and played sport because I loved it, it's been a huge part of my life."
McGrath also acknowledged the importance of sportsmen and women like himself engaging with young country cricketers, and reflected on how a similar experience changed his own life.
"I got invited to Sydney by playing a game of cricket in Parkes where Doug Walters, Mark Taylor, Greg Matthews, Mark Waugh, and Steve Small came and played," he said.
"From that game, I got invited to Sydney, so I think it's big for the country areas."
For aspiring athletes, McGrath had only one piece of advice.
"Just go out there and give it everything you've got," he said.
"Enjoy training, enjoy practice, and just play because you have a passion for the game.
"I was 18, going on 19, playing Saturday afternoons in a small country town before I got an opportunity."
