The 140km, day-long event is predominantly off-road and involves swimming in all three major lakes in Canberra, combined with cycling and running the many trails that traverse almost all of the major peaks in the ACT, including Mount Majura, Mount Ainslie, Mount Stromlo, Black Mountain and many other ridges and hills.
The long established team "Giant 440 Woodys #4 Pete" were there for the 18th time, and once again were outstanding. They came in fifth place outright and third team of nine in an almost-best time of 9 hours 35 minutes.
There were outstanding individual efforts among the nine-member team with Michael Beard and Stefan Hese recording the fourth-fastest splits for their individual legs.
Andy Oberg and Andy Dawes fared almost as well, clocking sixth-best times and Nathan Frazer ninth in the 18km first run leg.
Although not top 10 efforts, solid results were recorded by Rod Smith and Rod McWhirter (who backed up a 1.5km swim with a 23km bike leg).
Mark and Claire Stutchbury (two legs each), Jack Corkill, Jesse Versteegen and Yen-Chii Wong were joined by Rod Smith and Andy Dawes who doubled up from the "Woodys" to make the mixed ensemble "Here's Hoping".
This team fared slightly worse than their stellar counterparts, completing the course in a little over 12 hours 17 minutes and coming in 15th out of 30 mixed teams.
As their first time, they had realistic expectations from the day and were happy to finish mid-field.
Meanwhile, round three of the weekly Aquathon series took place on the night of Tuesday, November 19 and more than 50 competitors greeted the starter over the four race distances.
In the novice distance race (100m/2km) Ava and Stella McIntyre went first and second ahead of first-timer Lachlan Karooz.
Chelsea Rayner recorded a three minute personal best to claim fourth place and third lady.
Owen Edwards and the evergreen Peter Tapp made up second and third male. Noah and Will Canty are sure to improve after their first foray.
Chris Leah and Danielle Coleman once again took honours in the sprint distance race (200m/4km) Kelly McKellar and Cathy McCarthy were the second and third ladies.
Another newcomer, Ty Vanderlinden, showed impressive run speed completing the 4km in under 17 minutes.
The hotly contested intermediate distance race (400m/4km) had an impressive 22 starters this week but once again Damian Ottley and Nadine Moroney took the spoils.
Jason Pattison, Rod McWhirter and Grace Martin and Cathy McCarthy completed the placings.
Brody McKellar, Thomas Skeffington, Elke O'Rourke, Keagan Mitchell, Merv Back , Rebecca Miles and club matriarch Barb Beard all completed their first race of the year and look sure to feature in the results at some stage.
The long listance race of 600m/6km was won by Mark Gibson over Kurt Warn and Mark Stutchbury.
For the ladies, Olivia Stutchbury improved on her time by over a minute to take out first from Annette Pattison and Nik Christen.
