The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for a thunderstorm that could produce large hailstones in the area.

The bureau's 1.30pm warning was for a severe thunderstorm that could produce large hailstones and damaging winds for people in the Southern Tablelands, South Coast and other areas of the state.
"A cold front crossing the state is generating gusty thunderstorms. This front is expected to move out to sea later this evening," a Bureau spokesperson said.
"Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce large hailstones and damaging winds over the next several hours in the Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, Central Tablelands and parts of the Mid North Coast, Southern Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains and Central West Slopes and Plains districts.
"Locations which may be affected include Newcastle, Gosford, Sydney, Wollongong, Nowra, Orange and Dubbo.
"Severe thunderstorms are also likely to produce damaging winds over the next several hours in the South Coast, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains, the ACT and parts of the Central Tablelands districts.
"Locations which may be affected include Batemans Bay, Eden, Canberra, Goulburn, Cooma and Yass."
The BOM spokesperson said Moss Vale had recorded a 98 km/h wind gust at 11.44am and Canberra Airport, a 89 km/h wind gust at 12.07pm.
Meanwhile, the SES advises people should:
- Move cars under cover or away from trees.
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
- Keep at least 8m away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
- Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
- Unplug computers and appliances.
- Avoid using the phone during the storm.
- Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
