Rail company Journey Beyond is launching the Great Southern on Friday with the first service expected to carry more than 200 passengers.
The three-day trip will take in Victoria's Grampians region and visit Canberra before heading up Australia's east coast.
Journey Beyond also operates The Ghan service from Adelaide to Darwin and the Indian Pacific which runs between Perth and Sydney.
