On Friday, November 29, Jayden Ralph and Will Nagle took that dedication even further by making the trip to Beerwah in QLD, to compete in the South East Queensland Championships.
Both youngsters have been highly touted by the PCYC's head boxing trainer, Glenn Oag, who made the trip with the boys and oversaw their preparations.
Will, the younger of the two boys, fought in the 42kg division, while Jayden competed at the 69kg level.
PCYC assistant boxing coach, Justin Oag, said in an email to the Post that both boys did their club proud, despite coming away with a pair of decision losses.
"Unfortunately both boys were beaten on points decisions, and were crowned SE QLD Silver Medalists," Oag said.
"[But] Jayden's bout [was] widely regarded as fight of the tournament."
Though their results were not what the boys had hoped for, Oag urged them not to let their chins drop.
"For these two young men to come away with silver medals at their first interstate championships is an absolute credit to them both, and definitely a reflection of the hard work they've both put in over the past twelve months," Oag said.
The boys decided to take on the fights in Queensland with a week's notice, after the Goulburn PCYC's fight night, which was scheduled for November 30, was cancelled due to extraneous circumstances.
Oag praised the pair for their flexibility and willingness to take fights on short notice, along with their conduct while in QLD.
"These boys both agreed to the SE QLD [titles] with a week's notice, following the unfortunate cancellation of our local fight night," he said.
"[They] represented not only themselves, but also their club and town with the upmost dignity and respect in and out of the ring."
Following the cancellation of the PCYC's fight night last month, the club's next event will be the third edition of May the Fists Fly in May, 2020.
