After a partnership between Netball NSW and the Goulburn Mulwaree Council was announced late last year, it was revealed that the city was scheduled to host the 2020 Biennial Conference and a pre-season match between the NSW Swifts and Giants at Veolia Arena on February 22.
This announcement was warmly welcomed by the Goulburn District Netball Association, and vice president Karen Campbell said the committee was "very excited".
"We've been communicating with Netball NSW, who have kept us in the loop," Campbell said.
"We can ... promote the sport in the region [during the event], so we can grow the sport as much as we can."
The day will begin with the conference, which will take place under the theme "Our Sport, Our Way". It will focus on "netball's next development phase through leadership, building capacity, culture and a deeper understanding of the rise of female sport", according to a statement from the council.
The conference will be emceed by Andrew Miller, and will feature a number of keynote speakers, one of whom will be Carol Fox (Chair of Women Sport Australia), with the rest to be announced prior to the event.
The afternoon will also feature workshops for administrators, umpires, and coaches.
The conference will be followed by the match between the Swifts and Giants, which Campbell expects to be a strong drawcard for netball fans in the region.
"It's huge, for all of our players," she said.
"They all look up to and aspire to be like these players. It's very exciting for our players to be able to see that in their home town."
Campbell added that the GDNA is looking to hold come and try days in the lead up to the event, while the association's Net Set Go players will take to the court at half time.
Goulburn Mulwaree Council mayor, Bob Kirk, was thrilled that Goulburn was selected to host another high-profile sporting event.
"Goulburn continues to prove itself as an ideal location for high-level sporting events and conferences, which in turn provide a strong economic benefit to our region," Cr Kirk said.
"It will be a wonderful opportunity for community members to watch the stars of Netball clash in a pre-season game when the NSW Swifts play the Giants at the Veolia Arena in February."
